 Behind the Candelabra
(2013) on IMDb

(2013)
Genre: Biography/Drama
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Writers: Richard LaGravenese, Scott Thorson, Alex Thorleifson
Producers: Susan Ekins, Gregory Jacobs, Michael Polaire, Jerry Weintraub

Synopsis: Before Elvis, before Elton John, Madonna and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: virtuoso pianist, outrageous entertainer and flamboyant star of stage and television. A name synonymous with showmanship, extravagance and candelabras, he was a world-renowned performer with a flair that endeared him to his audiences and created a loyal fan base spanning his 40-year career. Liberace lived lavishly and embraced a lifestyle of excess both on and off stage. In summer 1977, handsome young stranger Scott Thorson walked into his dressing room and, despite their age difference and seemingly different worlds, the two embarked on a secretive five-year love affair. BEHIND THE CANDELABRA takes a behind-the-scenes look at their tempestuous relationship - from their first meeting backstage at the Las Vegas Hilton to their bitter and public break-up. -- (Written by HBO Films)

The War of the Roses

 My Rating:
 IMDb Users:
(1989)
Genre: Comedy/Drama
Director: Danny DeVito
Writers: Warren Adler, Michael Leeson
Producers: James L. Brooks, Doug Claybourne, Michael Leeson, Arnon Milchan, J. Marina Muhlfriedel, Polly Platt

Synopsis: Divorce lawyer Danny De Vito warns his prospective client that the story he's about to tell isn't a pretty one, but the client listens with eager intensity -- as do the folks out there in the movie in the audience. The War of the Roses can best be described as a slapstick tragedy concerning the decline and literal fall of a marriage. After 17 years, Oliver (Michael Douglas) and Barbara (Kathleen Turner) Rose want a divorce. Not for this couple is there anything resembling a "civilized understanding": Barbara wants their opulent house, and Oliver isn't about to part with the domicile. -- (Written by Twentieth Century Fox)

(1997)
Genre: Thriller
Director: David Fincher
Writers: John D. Brancato, Michael Ferris
Producers: John D. Brancato, Ceán Chaffin, Michael Ferris, Steve Golin, Jonathan Mostow

Synopsis: Wealthy financier Nicholas Van Orton gets a strange birthday present from wayward brother Conrad: a live-action game that consumes his life. -- (Written by IMDb Editors)

Cast:
  • Michael Douglas
  • Sean Penn
  • Deborah Kara Unger
  • James Rebhorn

Short Review: Unlike the majority of the film's viewers, I did not enjoy The Game at all really. Mainly because of the story. I found it annoying, and at times just plain silly. I was really disappointed because I am a huge David Fincher fan, and respect Michael Douglas and Sean Penn greatly. I must warn you as well - it's a film with no answers. There are many exceptions when I don't mind an open ended plot with a few unanswered questions, but this film was not one of those.

A Perfect Murder

 My Rating:
 IMDb Users:
(1998) (Remake)
Genre: Thriller
Director: Andrew Davis
Writer: Patrick Smith Kelly, Frederick Knott
Producers: Lowell D. Blank, Stephen Brown, Mitchell E. Dauterive, Nana Greenwald, Anne Kopelson, Arnold Kopelson, Peter Macgregor-Scott, Christopher Mankiewicz, Lisa Reardon, Teresa Tucker-Davies

Synopsis: A Perfect Murder is based on Frederick Knott's play Dial "M" for Murder, filmed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1954. Married to commodities trader Stephen Taylor (Michael Douglas), Emily Bradford (Gwyneth Paltrow) is romantically involved with artist David Shaw (Viggo Mortensen). Aware of this affair, Stephen researches David's past, visits his loft studio, and informs David that he knows about his aliases, jail sentences, and various cons and scams directed at rich women. Then Stephen offers David $500,000 to murder Emily, and David agrees. The plan is calculated to make the murder look like an accident, but events soon go on an unscheduled course. Enter Detective Mohamed Karaman (David Suchet). Knott's original play opened June 1952 in London, followed by a New York run that began October 1952. Several books and sources describe how Hitchcock's film was made in 3-D but neglect to mention that, despite trade screenings in 3-D, Dial M for Murder was originally released in 1954 with ordinary, flat 2-D prints. It was finally shown to audiences in 3-D during the mid-'80s. ~ (Written by Bhob Stewart)
